Things to do in Rio 2017 - Rio is located on the Atlantic Coast close to the Tropic of Capricorn and found on a stretch called Guanabara Bay. Rio de Janeiro translates into english as River of January and was founded in 1502 by the portuguese explorer Gaspar de Lemos. 1. Passing the New Year watching the Firework display from Copacabana beach
Rio de Janeiro is a city where there is always a party or some reason to celebrate and New Years celebrations go on all throughout the night. Most of the locals will be having a barbeque in the streets and their homes and then heading down to the Copacabana for the fireworks display which are truly spectacular with no cost spared. You will need to get down their a couple of hours early should you wish to find a good spot as the beach is completely full. There are street vendors selling drinks and snacks all along the beach too

3. Visit the Maracanã to watch a match or visit the stadium

5. Visit Christ the Redeemer - Corcovado-Cristo Redentor
The icon of Rio and Brazil is always seen as that of Christ with open arms protecting a city and is the one thing you really cannot miss if you make the trip to Rio. Located in the Corcovado Mountain, the Christ is not the only attraction. The path to get there will take you in a beautiful adventure into the woods. Expect to take at least 4 hours in the visits, 2 hours roundtrip, time to wait for the transport and 1 hour to visit the Christ.
