Things to do in Florianópolis - Florianópolis is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Brazil especially in the summer months between December and March.
Things to do in Florianópolis - Florianópolis is located in south of Brazil in the state of Santa Caterina. The city was founded in in 1673 and is the capital city of the state which is located on the Island of Santa Caterina.
On the Island there are over 40 beaches to choose from and plenty of things to do. Floripa as it is known is a big favourite with the Argentinians and Uruguayan's on their summer vacations and the state is very much of European ethnicity with many German and Austrians settling here and many still speaking German in parts.

1. Make a visit to Campeche Island - Things to do in Florianópolis
From one Island to the next Campeche Island is just over a kilometer from the coast of Florianópolis. The island can be reached by boat from Praia do Campeche for a approx 50$ Brl retrun and there is also a preservation tax on the island of 5$ Brl for every 30 mins. Its a great place to do some snorkeling and see some of the dunes. The main street on the island is named after the Author of "The Little Prince" Antoine de Saint-Exupéry who spent time there in the 20th century.

2. Fortaleza de Sao Jose da Ponta Grossa
The fortress is located in the north of the Island around 25 KM from the city centre so you can either rent a car while on the Island to get around or take one of the tours to the fortress. Strategically located at the top of the hill of Ponta Grossa, framed by the beauty of the coast and the sand of Praia do Forte. . It was built in 1740. Its costs approx 8$ Brl for a full ticket and 4$ Brl reduced to make a visit if you go yourselves.

3. Check out the local nightlife - Things to do in Florianópolis
Florianpolólis has a big clubbing and bar scene and there are plently of options. You can head up to the north of the Island to Jurere where you can find Pacha, Cafe de La Musique and P12. Or in the centre you can find plenty of places for Sertaneja which is Brazilian country music or Samba bars and also Forro places which is music from the Northeast of Brazil.

4. Trail to Lagoinha do Leste
The trail to Lagoinha do Leste is the only way to reach the beach and it really is a paradise and worth the effort. The trails offers spectacular views and the beach an coast itself is untouched with white sands and completely natural without and kiosks or hotels in sight. The trail is located in the south of the island and can be made from Matadeiro beach, or by the trail that starts near the Pântano do Sul beach. Matadeiro takes approx 2 hours but is reasonably flat. Pântano is a little shorter maybe 1 hour 30 mins but is more of a difficult trail. You will need to wear good shoes for walking for both.

5. Take a visit to São Antonio de Lisboa - Things to do in Florianópolis
Located in the north west side of the island and is about 30 mins by car, Santo Antônio de Lisboa was established in the 18th century by the Portuguese from the Azores islands. Its a beautiful little town in the Portuguese style with great restaurants a lovely beach and shop nice handcraft shops.

6. See the Museu Histórico de Santa Catarina
Located in the city centre of Florianópolis you can find the Museum Histórico de Santa Catarina with the Cruz and Souza Palace which is a 18th century building mixed or Boroque and Noclassical style. The building was a former seat of government is worth a look just for the architecture. Its closed on mondays and costs 5$ Brl to visit.

7. State Park Of Serra do Tabuleiro - Things to do in Florianópolis
The park of Serra do Tabuleiro is the largest protected area of the state of Santa Caterina. If the sun gets too hot in the summer months its a nice place for a day out, take a picnic into the mountains where you will find plently of wildlife. There are lots of trails and waterfalls to see such as Rio Vermelho which has a drop of 70 meters.

8. Go River rafting on the Cubatão River
An unbelievably fun day out rafting on the Cubatão River where you can spend a couple of hours riding down the rapids. You can choose from various difficulty levels and go with experienced rafters and guides. You will need to book a tour from your accommodation or from the tourist offices in the town. A tour will cost approx 140$ Brl. You will be picked up and its about an hour to Santo Amaro da Imperatriz in the Sierra board park.

9. See the Sand Dunes at Dunas Joaquina
The beach of Joaquina gained fame in 1970s as a surf beach and ever since has become the scene of national and international surfing competitions. You can come down to relax on the beach, take a surf lesson or check out the impressive sand dunes and amazing views. Its about 20 km from the city centre.
